Northumberland Calling

Sometimes you reach a turning point.  The last 12 months have been just that for us. We sold our home, stepped away from a 30-year career and answered the call of the last kingdom: Northumberland!

That’s how a boy, a girl, two terriers and a Yorkshire son find themselves in the splendours of Warkworth. Of course, we had visited over the years with ‘delighted eyes’ this ‘Warkworth, proud of Percy’s name’ (Walter Scott, 1808) but this time, in the Coquet’s crook, we will remain.

Any visitor will tell you of the magnificent castle, 12th century church, 14th century bridge, beautiful shops, charming cafes and splendid hostilities; all embraced by the river Coquet whose brackish waters unfold at Amble harbour. But what really makes Warkworth and the surround villages amazing is the people.  I defy you to find more welcoming people than Northumbrians.

Whether it’s your neighbours, people walking their dogs, retailers or those involved in community groups and events, they invited you in (you just need to accept the offer). We’ve started to get involved and its fabulous: we walk the streets and beaches and it feels like paradise.

So here we are, us lucky few, with just one more introduction to go… but more on Minty ~ the little green bean machine ~ next time

Take care
